So #Mailchimp has drastically raised prices on anyone with more than 500 subscribers, regardless of how few emails you send. This is challenging for light mailers like me with more than that many subscribers...

What's a good alternative to Mailchimp for #newsletters? I'm not opposed to paying, but Mailchimp's cheapest plan is $26.50 per month, and that's quite a lot for a hobby site!

@sfoskett If you have a cloud server, hands down option is Sendy.co .... uses Amazon SES. Will cost you pennies per thousands of emails. Drop dead effective. Been a big fan for three years.

Sendy is a self hosted newsletter application that lets you send trackable emails 100x cheaper via Amazon SES.

@sfoskett why would they not? I’ve never had issues. It does DKIM domain verification so all recipient systems trust it.

@jimcarroll thanks for the tip! Since it uses SES the messages will get through, right?

@jimcarroll yeah that was my worry. Anti spam has made it difficult to self host email

@jimcarroll I installed Sendy and am migrating over from Mailchimp. Thanks for the suggestion!

@sfoskett Fantastic. If you need any help or guidance, let me know. My only weak point is that other than a server level backup (which occurs daily), I haven't put in place a good database backup process.

I also have a Wordpress-to-Sendy plugin that was $13 somewhere; it automates the process of grabbing form data (another plugin) and sending it direct to the database.

@sfoskett The forms on my site are based on Gravity Forms, and integrate into Sendy via that 3rd party add on. Works pretty seamlessly.

@jimcarroll This is my next challenge (after getting out of the SES sandbox): Integrating the signup process and getting off the (actually quite good) Mailchimp Wordpress plugins
