Oh, modify #FreeBSD's init? Drawing on my extensive, lemme see, four days or so experience with the OS?

      LEEEEEEROY JENKIIIIIIIIIIINNNS!!!

      ...

The init script could collect all output into a variable and add the return code of all commands to another variable. At the end of the script, if the return code sum is zero, just print [OK], otherwise print all of the output of the commands within the init script.

Now I kinda want to do that for #FreeBSD, lol

I've had it both ways. I remember when you didn't have a graphical splash screen or even an itemized service list as they start -- the init scripts just blurted whatever they wanted.
RedHat (not RHEL) 6.2 or 7 was the first linux distro I saw that gave you a neat and tidy "Starting sendmail... [OK]" type itemized init output.

Come to think of it, a simple pass/fail output would be preferable, or even a pass-or-detailed-failure-message system.

      …

      Alright, I finished reading. :)

Some interesting things here. Personally, I actually prefer the verbose output to the splash screen, since it's easy to see that things are happening.

Yeah, I do to, for my boot I just have stuff scrolling through, no plymouth (surprise :p) or anything, just the basic linux startup lines :)

I like having it there, but others might like something a bit more.. eh.. aesthetically pleasing :p

As promised, a blog post on making the #FreeBSD boot-up process a lot more visually quiet/peaceful:
