Chrome still doesn't support color fonts, lame.

@thomasfuchs wtf, this is a thing?!
I can see its utility from a design perspective, sure. There is fidelity you can encode with colour for a richness in glyph rendering that you wouldn't be able to get otherwise. But, c'mon. Even the *examples* on https://www.colorfonts.wtf/ are abusing this feature in a way that propels us toward a nightmarishly garish future of illegible hellsite scrawl and MS-Wordart title renderings. Actually, maybe that's great. Viva la '90s!

Correction... they _just don't support what all other browsers support_ and came up with their own thing?
Ugh.

@pospi Like any font, it depends on how you use it. :)
You can make amazing designs with these, and you can make garbage.

@thomasfuchs the web is Chrome, and I feel like an idiot for contributing to that.

E.g. Gilbert Color (OpenType) works fine in Safari but in Chrome it's just black. https://www.typewithpride.com

What's a color font? Very simplified it's essentially just like any other font, however the individual glyphs are full-on vector graphics (SVG) instead of just curves/solid color fills.
There's also some variations with bitmapped graphics, I believe the emoji font that comes with macOS is one.
Vector color fonts seems to have gotten some interest a few years back (2017?) but there hasn't been much movement in years.

@thomasfuchs I remember Type 3 Postscript fonts from back in the day, which supported colour glyphs :)

@thomasfuchs Sorry, maybe I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that that website wouldn't render the font in color in Chrome. I took a screengrab of it rendering colors. Sorry if I got that wrong!

@kandyd The website isn't using the font. It's showing images of the font in use, rendered by something else.
