     This thread makes me want to make an Amethyst fork where I find the if statement that checks to see if a post should be hidden, and just makes it if false. Just make the lowest IQ commit to fix the problem and do literally nothing else to it. :anintellectual:

     People do this sort of shit in professional projects all the time. The only problem is it doesn’t effect third parties. People who want this feature (federated jannying, I’m calling it) will still use regular Amethyst. So it doesn’t really bypass the thing fully. Unfortunately.

An client-side open source algorithm users can control is actually significantly better that some emotional admins going on a power trip.

This is a client-side app that USERS make the conscious decision to install because they want to use that app. It represents a PORTION of the Nostr network where users have OPTED-IN to that behavior. The underlying Nostr protocol is resistant to censorship, but it enables developers to build tools that give users CHOICES about what content they want to see. Just like it’s your freedom to shitpost on the network, it’s THEIR freedom to choose tools that hide posts they believe they don’t want so see. Think about it.

     I thought about it when I was informed by someone that my posts were marked as inappropriate spam. They didn’t understand why that was, but I figured it out p quickly because someone else told me about the reports earlier. So let’s review:
     
     1. My posts are not inappropriate spam, and should not be hidden or labelled as such.
     
     2. Users clearly don’t understand how it works, except the ones that do and use it as a means to censor ppl through false spam reports.
     
     3. Shared blocklists like fediblock and “democratic censorship” like this are cancer and shouldn’t be encouraged. Like ToxicPositivity said, spammers just create a ton of new accounts so this “feature” doesn’t actually solve the spam problem.
