I'm pretty sure there's some rule at DELL and other PC monitor manufacturers that all input ports must be in the most inconvenient location and also extra deeply recessed with just enough space your fingers don't fit

I've never had this issue with Apple's monitors btw, someone there insists on having the ports flush with the surface at a right angle so it’s really easy to plug cables in.
CRT monitors also used to arrange ports that way.
The thinking of other manufacturers is probably "what if someone mounts the monitor flush against a wall”... however I’m struggling with a curved screen here, unless you live in a missile silo you probably can't mount that flush to the wall.

It's extra bad on this DELL here because I'm using a USB-C cable and the tolerances are wonky so it pulls out too easily (which wouldn't happen if it was straight out the back).

@thomasfuchs I sometimes wonder if these companies care more about how the back of the display looks than how the front of the display looks.
My workaround is to rotate the monitor halfway to portrait mode so I can see the ports, but not all monitor stands support this.

@bucknam I'm still a bit bitter that we sold ours when we moved cross-country

@thomasfuchs and as long as it’s not aligned above or below any VESA mounting points right-angled ports coming out of the back wouldn’t create a usability issue. Probably also why Apple placed their ports on the lower right back corner of their still-great Thunderbolt Displays.

@cbirdsong "input ports” as in where it gets display signals from.
on the monitor you linked those are exclusively recessed at the bottom, pointing down; just as with my monitor.

@thomasfuchs The upcoming Dell 6k has a few ports on a little hinged door on the bottom. https://www.delltechnologies.com/asset/en-us/products/electronics-and-accessories/technical-support/dell-ultrasharp-32-6k-monitor-u3224kb-product-guide.pdf
