@tulpa Thanks! We're always collecting feedback to improve the experience ?
@bitwarden I was reasonably happy with the GUI export function of the browser extensions. But for other reasons, it became inconvenient to encrypt my backups. So I moved to that crazy KeePass solution.
Don't get me wrong, I'm overall a happy Bitwarden customer.
@tulpa Thanks for the feedback, and you're looking for something other than the export function of the CLI? https://bitwarden.com/help/cli/#export
@bitwarden What I wished for, was an encrypted backup that was in some standard format that I could decrypt with a standard tool, using my master password.
What I actually do now is maintain in parallel a KeePass database with the same data I have in Bitwarden. And that is my backup.
@tulpa You can create encrypted exports, just keep in mind that rotating your encryption key means you'll lost access to old exports if you don't use the CLI method.
You can also just export unencrypted into Verarypt or Cryptomator.
@bitwarden I like how even Bitwarden's own docs don't recommend using the encrypted export for backup. I've been disappointed in the way that was designed since it appeared.
@remybemol Thanks for the feedback, will pass it along to the team!
@bitwarden This guide recommends choosing a different password to protect the backup, but I guess some people will tend to reuse their (current) master password instead. Could the guide include some explanation for this choice (in a footnote, maybe)? I think it might help people choose what works best for them.
@sudo @tulpa You can ping our support team at https://bitwarden.com/contact/
We're working on putting instructions for this up on the Bitwarden website, stay tuned!
@bitwarden @tulpa I tried using the CLI tool to automate the creation of regular backups with a script but it keeps asking me for the master password multiple times. ?
