   I'm starting to think twitter was... limiting if anything. I know most of ya'll don't care about follower counts, which is refreshing, tbh.

   But, I think this little factoid is best used to reassure those who don't leave because they don't think they'll ever have the same amount of fun. And those like various creators who feel being connected is part of their job.

     @futurebird And I’ve sold more of my work on Mastodon in the last month than I have on Twitter in years.

     Also, there are definitely fewer bots here. Fewer dead accounts. If you have 100 people following you and post something you can have more interesting active conversations that with 1000s of followers at twitter.

     @futurebird I have about 1/4 of the followers here as I do there, but the quality of conversations has been higher here. Also, I can post silly, goofy, maybe trivial, things here and still have much more interactions on the post where it would mostly be crickets over there (unless you post a really "hot" take or "unpopular" opinion). I'm glad a couple people took the time to introduce me to Mastodon and correct some misunderstandings I had about the platform.

     I'm not using twitter/mastodon commercially, so i don't want to come down to hard on people who are worried for their income.
     But i've had similar experiences re followers: it grows pretty fast when you write some toots and follow some people.

     At Twitter i had to build from scratch, but here i could start by following a few dozen other accounts from the twexodus, who alerted me to other cool accounts, etc etc.

     There will always be some people who somehow 'hacked' the twitter-algoritm to perfection and won't find the same succes on mastodon. But i think that most people will find the mastodon-experience equal to or even better than Twitter.
