   This is a fantastic development! We should also thank forward-looking distros like @elementary and its AppCenter for Everyone initiative for paving the way.

   Now, will Snap follow this move? Because I'd much rather support an ecosystem that in turn has the mechanisms in place to support the developers.

     @PublicLewdness @elementary an app developer absolutely has the right to charge a one time fee for their software. Why are you against that?

     Donations I can get behind but not payments or subscriptions. I also wouldn't praise Elementry's app center as last time I tried it it had tons of paid apps but not even basic FOSS apps like Libre Office.

     @PublicLewdness @elementary The average user doesn't want to compile source code, though.

     You absolutely have the right to not stand behind it, though. I just want you to understand that your way of thinking may differ from most typical consumers.

     I am happy to pay a one-time fee to the developer for their WORK and for the convenience of not needing to compile source code.

     I'm not saying they don't have the right, i'm saying I wouldn't pay it and choose a different program. That is my right as a consumer. I just see it as rife with potential issues. I donate over $1000/year to varjous programs, i'm not cheap I just don't trust easy. Not to mention if the program is FOSS they'd still have to provide source code that people could compile. They're really charging for binaries.
