The reason Twitter is turning off text message 2FA is the same why they’re (probably) rationing toilet paper in their offices: to save money.
Presumably most of their ad revenue stream has dried up by now.

@thomasfuchs this is one of those 'even a broken clock is right twice a day' situations. Twitter is the broken clock here; SMS as a second factor is insecure.
@thomasfuchs do you have to pay to use an app 2FA also? E.g. pay to secure your account at all?
