   So what I've done in 2 weeks here:

   - implemented my own Mastodon server so I'm @jimcarroll

   - set up an Amazon S3 bucket for cloud storage of media (images, video etc) to reduce server storage/load

   - put a Cloudfront CNAME on it so media comes from media.futurist.info

   - put Elasticsearch on it so I have form of rudimentary search of my timeline

   - made new friends!

   The server is costing me about $12 a month.

   I was verified for real on Twitter, but going forward, will not spend $8 there

     @jimcarroll That sir is very impressive to say the least.

     All this flashback talk is making me remember my BBS days on the Commodore 64 and Commodore 128. That's really where I got my start when it comes to computers and everything that went with it.
