EVERYONE SPOKE PIDGIN IN HAWAII when I lived there. I'm fluent. All my friends insist on my doing it as their fave parlor trick.
But even I think that speaking only pidgin is a sign of ignorance.
Everyone should be code switching.
If you only only pidgin then you're really unhireable.
My haole mum's orders: "outside, you speak pidgin to fit in with Hawaii but in the house, it's proper English."
