also with words like "account" being translated to "konto" seems kind of fake to me in a way. Current changes (by me) didnt translate the word but still has some instances where it was translated (by somebody else) to "konto". cc @alex what do you think? -

@widmer @issdeinschnitzel @Tutanota Interesting. If most of the translation is already informal, I’m fine sticking with that.
There is not really a German-speaking audience on Soapbox yet, so it could be anything. My prior comment is based on the userbases of Truth Social and Spinster.

stuff like this is why my email provider @Tutanota offers both informal and formal german as seperate languages ? -

that implies several things. Esp. as to how a user is addressed (informal was already used so I used that too), but older generations would prefer formal german which would require rewriting entire sentences. ? -

@alex @widmer @issdeinschnitzel @Tutanota Informal seems like the logical option but I don't know shit about German so take it with a grain of salt. Alex Gleason likes this. -

one of the most frustrating words to translate is "post". On one hand you can call it "beitrag", on the other, nobody would ever say "rebeitrag". It's a repost. Though I guess calling it a "share" might work (teilen) -

@alex @widmer @Tutanota I prefer a neutral translation. Mastodon used the more informal "Du". I didn't change that, but tried to use sentences without Du or Sie. Facebook uses "Konto", so I don't think that's fake. -

I've never heard anybody my age say Konto instead of Account. Only my dad would say that
