     Can y'all please reassure me that contacting interview subjects to say, "hey, I tried to keep your data so private I accidentally deleted the only copy of it, can we talk again" isn't going to make me look like a complete idiot

     hi how are you, I just discovered that the last backup I did of my hard drive before swapping my computer for a less broken version was incomplete

     and now i'm missing some very important things that are probably gone forever

     i'm so furious at myself, and at the state of technology that stuff like this still happens
