   here's a tech hot take: some tech isnt universally harmful. however, if it easily harmful, then building a culture of radical opposition to its use means that it will only be used when absolutely neccessary

     @eris Well, the ones deciding if it's reasonable or not should be the end-users.
     And in almost all cases, JavaScript code should just be removed.

     movements like 'responsible use' are utterly ineffectual in actually enacting responsible usage, as they simply make people who use the tech irresponsibly feel slightly better about themselves

     @eris@merveilles.town @lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me this is precisely why we need new novel platforms that are not POSIX-C compatible. its an easy way to say "no" to javascript and create a convenient barrier against js colonization.

     @eris Well yeah, you can't really install JS stuff in a sane way, which is the first step in being able to have control over what gets executed, so it should be thrown away just like proprietary software.

     @eris@merveilles.town @lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me i mean yeah, you can't obligate the institution to switch to the new tech. that's kind of a them and you problem, don't you think? yeah its a case where it doesn't work, but that's hardly the point of creating novel clean-slate platforms. see, if you want the education, you have to work within the framework of the institution. that's not an obstacle, that's a choice.
