    The Menu (2022)
enjoyable indie movie that's a criticism of a lot of fine art while ironically falling short of being a great movie because it overindulges its themes to try and force an ending instead of making something that is naturally narratively satisfying.

that pretentious run-on sentence makes sense if you watch the movie.

@Basileuscomic The idea that a stick figure anorexic whore would be able to handle a half pound burger, or that he'd not be insulted she took only a bite, is silly. I get what they wanted to do but I honestly didn't care if she lived. She was just a whore and she had no character outside of that. Literally just "she wants to live", as if the others don't, but maybe based on the ending they didn't.

Basically everything after the mutt gets stabbed sucked. Before that it's kino

I found the burger eating ending very cringe as well. Burgers have been elevated to a pretentious icon in their own way, which the movie plays into, undermining its own messaging. It was mostly fun though.

Oh also I thought the college debt quip was a bit cringe, but everyone I've talked to seemed to like it.

@Basileuscomic The bit about hating the actor because his movie sucked was also a fourth wall breaker tbh

ah yeh I remember now she hypnotized him with psychoanalysis into giving her freedom, that was really dumb.

I think her characterization was part of what bothered me about the college debt thing. They made her and the chef guy out to be "working class" like hes just a cook and shes a working girl (whore). But the joke about college debt is such a middle class, money grubbing thing to riff on, it was out of character. "Oh you didnt go 80k into debt getting your diversity and inclusion degree? You must be an evil rich piece of shit like the rest of them"
