   also can someone explain to me the benefits of having an open "listening port" for a torrent client?
   is it like a handshake sort of thing for leeches and seeders?

     @rakyah if you have an open listening port, you can connect to anyone. if you have a closed listening port, you can only connect to people with open listening ports.
