@colinsmatt11 Oysters are considered a vegan gray area because they’re technically in the animal kingdom but we believe them to not be sentient. Sentience is the baseline, so munchrooms don’t get a pass.

Eggs aren't sentient though... -

@HitlerIs6_4 @colinsmatt11 Read the other thread about eggs, was discussed a few hours ago.

@HitlerIs6_4 @colinsmatt11 In isolation, yeah. In the hypothetical primitivist world. But in today’s world it’s not exactly practical for everyone to eat scrambled eggs for breakfast without some NSFL stuff happening behind the scenes.

We have one of the people in that thread defeded because their instance spammed hamster rape fantasies and underaged anime porn at me and some people from chud buds after I said something they didn't like about black people.
But the essence is that you believe the modern chicken is an abomination that shouldn't exist? Would you be ok if someone ate eggs from an animal that wasn't bread to be in constant misery, in exchange for giving it a higher quality of life it would have than in the wild? -

Well that's sensible at least. What level of consciousness do you consider sentient btw? -

@HitlerIs6_4 @colinsmatt11 Bugs are sentient, plants are not. I don’t really want to get into a debate about plant sentience. I acknowledge it’s more of a spectrum than a boolean, but experimental studies saying plants may be able to feel 0.00001% of something abstractly resembling pain is not an excuse to kill a cow. The baseline is more like: if you think killing dogs is bad, then killing cows is also bad.

I'm more curious if you then extend that definition to unborn humans. Bugs can be extremely simple things, especially when you realize there is a consistent spectrum of bugs that goes from a tarantula all the way down to a microscopic, blind pseudo-scorpion that clings to the back of a beetles for a free ride. All but the most basic of fetuses have some level of intelligence and awareness that greatly exceeds the smallest bug's. -

@HitlerIs6_4 @colinsmatt11 There’s a point where unborn humans become sentient and I don’t approve of killing them. It’s not at the moment of fertilization, though. Also if the mother’s life is in danger I would choose the mother over the baby every time.
