While Bluesky is designed to support federation, it won’t federate with Mastodon in the near future—perhaps never will. This is because Bluesky uses AT protocol and Mastodon uses ActivityPub. These protocols are not compatible with each other. However, bridges are being built for both services.

No, Bluesky is not likely to federate with Mastodon any time soon. It might never happen
I had to explain this on Bluesky because some people believed federation with Mastodon was coming.
Nope! The protocols are incompatible with each other!
