   I had several opportunities to leave this part of the world at around 18 and also 22. I stayed primarily because I felt like I had a lot to do there.

   My 20s and 30s were spent living and working in nearly every South and southeast Asian country and it enriched my life tremendously.

   It also gave me a better grounding to go and do other things elsewhere.

   In general I feel a very deep sense of ‘I belong everywhere here’ that no degree of immigrant alienation can ever take away from me.

   My mind did not go there, because I don't foresee Iran facing an existential threat.

   This could change, of course, and also I may simply not be seeing an existential threat that's already out there.

   Went to the DMV today. When you are ancient, they prefer testing your vision. It's as though the DMV people never drive here. Nobody can see what they're doing out there.

   My nearly equally ancient birth certificate abstract was accepted, so it will be Real ID. Does this mean I can visit Canada again and they will let me return?

   Someone laid scratch in the DMV parking lot. No points. You missed me.

   I feel sorry for my friends that still live there.

   My friend's that live upstate say that the prices of homes are already going up due to the expected influx of city dwellers moving out of the city.

   @domo I also appreciate polite correction in my other two main languages, which I use less in my professional life, but it needs to be done kindly because I have some rejection sensitivity issues there.

   My L4 requires constant correction and I appreciate anything I get but I'm still A1 there.

   I think kudos to Blue Yonder, they clearly haven't paid the Termite ransomware group extortion attempt as the data is still sat there.

   My view in these things is don't pay as aside from the obvious, the data will disappear anyway -- ransomware groups can't afford to keep it online for long. Also, it gives you the option of downloading a free backup of your own data.

   Their last update is December 12th.
