   Do not, I repeat, DO NOT start communication with adult women you do not know with "Dear Mrs. X,"

   NO. DO NOT DO IT.

   It is "Dear Ms. X," and I do not care what you were taught in school. Your teacher was wrong.

   And ESPECIALLY do not do the former when you don't know their marital status (though I maintain you should not even when you DO).

   "Mrs." is NOT the default, and it makes me want to punch you every time you do it.
