@Paradox Well yeah! It’s the fundamental difference between Judaism and Christianity. The core conception of Christianity is that Jesus Christ remade the Covenant with God. The old rules don’t apply anymore. God is supposedly unchanging, but appears to have changed his mind, and this is explained as being a progression in God’s Plan™. For whatever reason, God is done with ethnocentricity and no longer has a Chosen People: now, ANYONE can come to God, through Jesus, because Jesus has suffered for the sins of all mankind.
Because of this, Judaism is structured around a kind of defensive tribalism (they think only they have a special relationship with God, since he’s the God of their People specifically) but Christianity is structured around evangelical conversion (because God has now claimed all of humanity, and can and WILL punish ALL of them for their sins. Only by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior can anyone be free of sin, by virtue of allowing Jesus to accept the BURDEN of their sin.
During my psychotic episode, this rhetoric led me to the notion that Jesus was in Hell, being tortured in pride of place, having accepted the burden of the sins of all the souls who came to Heaven through him. He volunteered to shoulder their punishment, after all, so it seems logical that his suffering should be far greater than three days of crucifixion.
So yeah, Jews have to gatekeep because they believe their souls are different from those of non-Jews (It’s my understanding that the word “goyim” (“Kingdom”) actually refers to Jews and non-Jews alike, since all is God’s Kingdom, but its perjorative use for non-Jews is longstanding.) By contrasts, Christians have to actively recruit, because they believe they are saving souls from the wrath of the very God they are recruiting for (“Damnation.”)
This entire family of religions is a terrible thing. I CW’d the post for a reason, if schizo minds get fixated thinking about this stuff it can be really painful and horrible for them. Unfortunately because this disgusting and insidious family of religions forms the basis for most of humanity’s primary religious framework (55% baby!) that means a lot of schizos are tormented by this shit without anyone even trying to hurt them with it. I know you’ve been on fedi for a while, but I don’t know if you remember Levi. He was an evangelion Christian (who I believe would probably have counted as schizophrenic) who was terrified of God. He knew he was gay, and that it would get him Damned. He was desperate to find a way out, and like many gay Christians he came to the conclusion that repression was the best option. He would openly admit to all of this, because he perceived there was NO WAY to escape God.
This is why I intend to spend the rest of my life evangelising for a healthy relationship with the real God: the “supreme reality”, the thing that is all things. Fortunately the notion exists in several world religions (most notably Hinduism) so there is ample precident and vocabulary to explain what I mean.
Unfortunately, the nature of the word “God” is so slippery (and so parasitized by Yahweh) that the very words “the real God” read to normie eyes like yet another person ranting about how their God is the real one. That’s sad and frustrating.
