President-elect Donald Trump publicly said Saturday that he will probably give TikTok a 90-day reprieve from a U.S. ban set to take effect Sunday, just before he takes office. “I think that would be, certainly, an option that we look at,” Trump told NBC News. “The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it’s appropriate. … We have to look at it carefully. It’s a very big situation.”

Of course TikTok itself can decide to block all connections from the US to make their point. They will do that for just a few days, if at all. Trump has already declared that he might sign an Executive Order to delay the ban by 90 days in his usual non-committal nonsense way of talking (possibly paywalled https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2025/01/18/trump-tiktok-ban-90-day-reprieve/ )
