This watercolor shows the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson, Arizona in spring. The top of the dominant mountain, Table Top, is green and a herd of Big Horn sheep lives there. Tiny, wispy clouds are in the sky, and the mountains fall rapidly toward the valley floor. The foothills are covered with sparse vegetation and slide downhill toward a cluster of houses with red roofs.

This is about the 10th time I have painted the Santa Catalina Mountains (Tucson). My greens are sap + quin gold , the browns are raw sienna + burnt sienna, the darks are ultramarine + burnt sienna, and the highlights are titanium white. I painted the foliage with a fan brush— stippling, sliding, sometimes using the flat of the brush, sometimes the corner, and sometimes the “knife” edge.
