   Understood this way, the 2024 Democratic campaign was a sales pitch to big business and older, affluent white Americans: "We will be better for you than Trump and better at keeping Those People in line without all the unnecessary drama and instability."

   And those groups said: "Nah, we prefer the fascism, actually."

   But Democrats weren't talking to the rest of us. They assumed the threat of Trump would be enough to scare us into submission.

   So now they're recalibrating.
