Elections in the US don't work off of 50% of the population voting. We don't have a quorum. They work off of the people _who show up_.
So if you don't show up because you can't bring yourself to vote for any candidate you are basically abdicating the choice to someone else, not making a profound statement, and if everyone did as you did then the consequence is your voice won't be heard at all.
