After his ally Miriam Adelson spoke, Trump got the spotlight and started by mentioning that there was another “violent” hurricane approaching the southeast. He also claimed that he didn’t know a Category 5 hurricane could come on to land: Before we begin, I would like to tell you that there’s a very violent hurricane that’s coming down the line. And it’s a Category 5, which is something that I've never heard, a Category 5 actually coming on to land, but it looks like it’s going to, and right smack in the middle of Florida. Nobody’s seen a line like that, and it’s heading there quickly. ‘Trump has heard of Category 5 hurricanes making landfall because back when he was president in 2019, he tweeted: “In addition to Florida — South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, will most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated. Looking like one of the largest hurricanes ever. Already category 5. BE CAREFUL! GOD BLESS EVERYONE!” And he probably should remember this particular hurricane — Hurricane Dorian — because this was the hurricane where he altered the NOAA forecast map with a Sharpie to “prove” that Dorian was going to affect Alabama especially hard, when the opposite was true. (Rather than heading west, in the direction of Alabama, Dorian was actually projected to move north up the east coast.)
