   It calls for honest communication of the magnitude of the risks and opportunities of transformation. Sober scientific facts have an important role in democratic decision making.

   Republicans equate absolute iron fisted control over children's lives with protection because they are the party of bullies and abusers, and the primary concern of any bully/abuser is control over the targets of their violence.

   Control equals a greater opportunity to inflict suffering and harm.

   It was never really about protection.

   It was always about maintaining the potential to inflict violence.
