#introduction Hi, I'm Jasper. I've been neglecting social media for a few years, for obvious reasons. My old twitter communities are scattered and gone, but I miss that mode of connecting. I'm here hoping to find and build something like that again.
My main things are literature and nature. I plan to post plant pictures (especially once spring gets underway) and bits about books.
In the past, my big thing was computer programming, specifically compiler technology. It is still my way of making money, and I can never pass up a good discussion about compilation models.
Despite feeling strongly about politics (resistance to capital and support for diversity) I'm going to try to avoid boosting too much political posts here, or at least focus on constructive stuff rather than the latest terrible thing the terrible people are doing.
I live in Berlin, Germany, as a foreigner. I'd love to find local connections as well. My German is fluent, if not grammatically solid.
I value you. Talk to me.
The Verwurstung of books.
In 1974, the artist Dieter Roth experimented with the materiality of books - and made, among other "literature sausages", Hegel's complete work to 20 sausages using traditional sausage recipes, replacing the sausage's meat with book paper.
The old tower was stuffed with books. Over the years distinct sections formed.
The crafting manuals had gathered near the kitchen, which was dominated by recipe books.
In the sunniest spire sat books about woodland critters making mischief against mean farmers.
In the renovated former-dungeons the romance novels shuddered, yearning for warm hands.
It was all protected by a dragon, who owned the tower and preferred books over princesses.
