   Spoke to my friends about the #fediverse and how the services offered (PeerTube, Lemmy, Mastodon, PixelFed) all require a lot of content to feel worthwhile. No one wants to hang around on a social media platform with no users.

   So why isn't there a fediverse alternative to something like Snapchat? Works in a small group of friends. You don't need to convince the whole world or your favourite artist to join - just your closest friends?

   @john Indeed.

   However, is there a huge amount of difference between mastodon.social – if they did, of course – removing an account on their server or blocking my instance of one? In both, they cut off access to me for their couple of million active users.

   So digital sovereignty matters but so does not having such massive power differentials or you might just end up very sovereignly talking to yourself :)

   @mjf_pro I'm constantly watching and as I'd pledged to our users will do anything required as the admin to protect them appropriate to what we see ...including de-federation should it be the nuclear option required -- if no other more surgical options would protect our users.

   So far in the earliest of days - not one ticket relating to any Threads federated users, here - but keeping a close, close watch.
