Starter Kits (Loops) and Starter Packs (Mastodon) have a lot of potential to help improve and surface discovery + following and onboarding.
I know some of you think it should be opt-out, so you can more easily curate lists by adding any account.
But it only takes one malicious user to create a Kit or Pack that can be easily abused by others.
Just one person could ruin the whole feature and its perception across the network, and cause harm.
It's not worth it.
Opt-in prevents abuse.
Period.
Because believing survivors of sexual violence costs you nothing. It does not threaten your comfort. It does not challenge your status. It does not require you to give up anything.
Believing Black folx does.
Believing us requires you to confront the fact that the world you benefit from was built through intentional harm.
It requires you to see that the advantages you experience are not accidental.
It requires you to question the innocence you cling to.
Republicans equate absolute iron fisted control over children's lives with protection because they are the party of bullies and abusers, and the primary concern of any bully/abuser is control over the targets of their violence.
Control equals a greater opportunity to inflict suffering and harm.
It was never really about protection.
It was always about maintaining the potential to inflict violence.
So every time you come back with "if these idiots would just VOTE" you're missing the point and actively doing your cause harm.
It's not "several million voters" responsibility to run Joe Biden's campaign for him. That's not now this works. You need to get a LOT better at telling folks the other team are nazis; and not just in my replies either. On the campaign trail, in speeches, in the media.
This "I'm going to yell at everyone complaining" thing is a mug's game and you will simply lose.
