First few days on Elvanse and wow! This stuff is honestly astonishing.

If you’re seeing this on Bluesky it’s auto cross posted from fedi. Breaks might be in odd places.

It’s essentially created two versions of me. There is medicated me who is a competent adult and can Just Do Stuff and unmedicated me who is mot, and cannot (but who is fun and lovely and is the version writing this).

On the way up the transition between the two is smooth and continuous.

On the way down it is not. I can feel it starting to fade over above half and hour then it reaches some critical level and o spend 10-15 minutes just crashing.

And then I’m the person writing this again, but a bit dazed and bewildered.

I’m hoping this will get smoother. At the moment it leads to almost a discontinuity in personality, but only on the way down, where afterwards I simply cannot conceive of being the person I just was.

I think I need to get into the habit, before it wears off, of leaving myself something nice for just after the crash.

It is fine. It also challenges players to be creative and patient in solving the obstacles to reach places.

It is why, many of us core #GuildWars2 players often recommends for new players to play the core game without gliding and any mounts even if they can unlock it already. This teaches the players how #GW2 works, especially when it comes to jumping puzzles and hard to reach places.

Oftentimes, in Guild Wars 2 at least, maps and puzzles made with flying in mind, were made similarly the way the early maps (without mounts) were made: make it very challenging that will require the player to be creative and fire up all those neurons in their brains.

And gliding is a perfect halfway through full-blown flying (as #WorldOfWarcraft offers). You still have to be creative and use those neurons.

To sideline, GW2 doesn't exactly have a full-blown flying mount like #WoW. The next step in “flying” after gliding, is the Gryphon. It's very fast “gliding” mount. Like gliding, Gryphon mounts work best when you are up high, so you can enable its speed mode (which is technically the fastest in the game).

Then the Skyscale mount is the best flying mount in GW2, which is still not a full-blown flying mount. You can't just fly all you want, you still have to find ways to climb because the Skyscale's stamina is limited. The higher you go, the faster it is consumed, and the less the Skyscale can store.

If #Palia will introduce something similar to GW2's mounts, then gliding is a very good start to practice. Just like in GW2, gliding was the first form of flying before the Gryphon and Skyscale were introduced.

So, yes, it is good to have gliding. It is also a good sign that the devs will not introduce a full-blown flying mount the way WoW did.

    ^_^

@lienrag @futurebird yeah, it's unfortunate that this "corrective" urge is wielded against - conspicuously - LGBT+ youth in many places.

It was illegal to be gay when and where I was born. Then I finished my schooling in a time and place where it was illegal to talk about LGBT issues and those of us who were out were ostracised at best.

I was largely immune to bullying (literally didn't notice, then later too scary to mess with), but I'm now raising a child who wants nothing to do with gender in a third country, where this kind of shit happens:

    https://www.francetvinfo.fr/societe/education/harcelement-a-l-ecole/suicide-de-lucas-dans-les-colleges-la-difficile-prise-en-compte-du-harcelement-scolaire-envers-les-eleves-lgbt_5613326.html

    (Should auto translate fine.)

And it is the normalisation of reactionary tendencies that produces this, and religion can be a powerful avenue for that kind of hate.

But I've worked with LGBT charities in various places, mostly Europe, and sadly the US does not have a monopoly on this kind of bullying, although they have an especially serious case of culture war against what's been declared to be "degeneracy".
