   Here’s a reminder about one of the most important results of the past fourteen years of ancient DNA research. Northern Europe was overrun by plague-spreading steppe nomads less than 5000 years ago, causing an almost complete population replacement.

   It’s a 1492 event. Everybody knows that us Northern Europeans aren’t the original inhabitants of North America. But we aren’t even the original inhabitants of Northern Europe.

   A few weeks ago, I sent my 1985 Swiss Army Knife back to Victorinox for a broken blade replacement.

   It came back today, fully repaired, cleaned, polished, lubricated and in a new box.

   Total cost: £10 + return postage.

   They sent the knife back with an invoice. I didn't have to pay a penny before the job was done.

   A product that's been out of production for almost 40 years, repaired at very little cost by the original manufacturer.

   I'm stunned. Happy, impressed, grateful and stunned.

   Ben was buffed up with dyed silver hair, dressed in a heavily augmented hard suit whose right arm was cleverly done up to look like a cybernetic replacement.

   It wasn't, though. Having lost his legs once, Ben never could bring himself to cut off a perfectly good arm, even if the replacement would undoubtedly be awesome.

   He resembled a futuristic version of the forge god Vulcan, although given the scraggliness of his hair and beard, definitely Vulcan after taking an edible.

   Yes. I agree. You actually saw the same thing recently with hobbyist jetpack project.... Or with drones.... The hobby drones reached the stage of formation lightshows way before they started to be used in the military as a missile replacement.

   It's almost as if the modern "industrialized advancement in military" was inferior to backyard scientists to some extent.
