Hi Sylvia!
You don't need to post anything to particular servers. The servers talk to each other seamlessly, so you just need to post on your own server.
To get a query noticed by more people, try to use all the relevant hashtags you can think of.
If you want your account to get more visibility, here are some hints to help with that: https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-get-more-followers-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/
Also, you may want to post queries to a discussion group, more about them at https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/
Did you know that each Mastodon server has its own custom emoji?
Each server admin can upload images :cate: or animations :rickroll: which are available to anyone on that server. Ask your admin if you want a particular emoji added to your server.
To access them on an app, click the app's own emoji button (usually a smiley 😃 ). For normal emoji, click the picker on your phone's keyboard.
To access them on the web, click the emoji picker in the post writing box (which looks like this 😂 ).
If you haven't already, would strongly recommend pinning an introductory toot to your profile. If you have particular images or video or audio you want to feature, they can be attached to pinned toots.
Also, pinned toots are automatically "backfilled" so you never have a blank profile on any server.
To add a pinned toot:
1. Log in with a third party app or through your server's website
2. Go to the toot you want to pin
3. Click ⋯ and "pin on profile"
You can also pin several toots at once!
If you run your own Mastodon server, you can manually choose accounts to recommend to your server's new members when they sign up. The recommendations can be accounts on other servers, or on your own server.
To manually choose recommended accounts, log in through the website using your admin account, then go to:
Preferences > Administration > Site Settings > Recommend These Accounts To New Users
Paste in the full Fediverse addresses of the accounts you want to recommend, separated with commas, then click the "Save Changes" button.
