This book focuses on the international linkages that are not evident in trade statistics or other data that could be included in regression analyses. The reason for this focus is that so much of the know-how that spread from one place to another resided in people’s heads as tacit knowledge (Alic, 2008). Over the decades of solar’s evolution, people were almost constantly moving around, visiting other countries, attending conferences, all of which facilitated exchange of knowledge, sometimes intentionally and often serendipitously.
