It's interesting to think about. But even if we would agree that inefficient software is to blame for everything, most still wouldn't want to write only software that runs well on almost 20 year old hardware.

It's been like this for years. Chrome should just remove the feature completely if they aren't going to support it/make it work at all.
There's no shame in just saying "we're not doing that feature, we're doing other stuff"! It's ok. But don't raise a pop-up for a feature that has never worked.

Small crowd is fine. If it gets bigger, it's so draining, and eventually confusing. But if it's 1-on-1, it's scary and awkward, especially when it comes to small talks, unless we're that close.
It's similar to, "I don't want to be touched yet I like it when someone hugs me tight".
