   I think the browser needs to be "decentralized" back into a document / layout engine, and the media features spun out as standards-compliant extensions.

   As to how we do it, yeah, we need a total rethink.

   Or, fuck the web -- native apps with sockets for stuff. Then "the web" is too hard for 80% of retarded developers and might get a tiny bit better.
