Then there are Reddit-style discussion groups. The older system is Lemmy (but I don't recommend it https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379). The newer system is Kbin (https://kbin.pub, https://kbin.social) which is less problematic, but it's still in its early stages and the interaction from Mastodon still seems a bit flaky.
So, at the moment the Guppe and Chirp groups seem best, but there should soon be more choice.

I don't recommend Lemmy (here's why: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379) but there's another Reddit-style Fediverse platform just appeared called Kbin.
You can find out more about Kbin at https://kbin.pub and there's an example server at https://kbin.social
@roomey The only list I'm aware of is the one on the official website: https://kbin.pub (hover over the Instances menu).
I haven't checked the fediverse server tracker websites if they added #Kbin yet.
There is a solo Kbin instance I came across: https://kilioa.org (I found no way to register, so I assumed it's solo).
Everyone, a friendly reminder, https://kbin.social is **not** the only #Kbin server or instance.
You can check the official website: https://kbin.pub and hover on the “Instances” menu.
One such Kebin instance is https://fedia.io
Please, do not be afraid to use a non-flagship server. Help distribute the load.
Lastly, and most importantly, Kebin is a very new software and development is moving fast. A little patience is needed.
As of this post, the official website states: This is a **very early beta** version.
There is no logo or mascot yet, so I'll just use…
KEVIN!!!!1
p.s. Have had lot of people asking similar questions, so here are some answers:
Kbin's website is at https://kbin.pub, they have a flagship server at https://kbin.social
There's no app yet, but you can use Kbin servers through their websites.
The lead developer of Kbin is @ernest, at the moment that's the account to follow for news on the project.
If you want to help Kbin there's a donation link at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin
They haven't done an app yet, but it works through the web. More info at https://kbin.pub
