@jwcph To take this further, I wonder how much of the acceptance of the “racist family member” is the fear that were they to confront the worst embodiments of an unfair and unjust system they benefit from themselves, the whole thread might unravel, threatening their own place of privilege within such a society.
In other words, how much of it is the implicit, guilty understanding that they are, themselves, fainter echos of said family member; at once disgusted by what they see in the mirror and yet terrified of the consequences of shattering it?
So let's recap what the media taught us this week.
The man that shot another man in cold blood is a heinous murderer that must be locked up.
The man that rode a system that puts healthcare behind a paywall, condemning possibly hundreds of thousands to death, while enriching himself to degrees that would save thousands if properly distributed, is a fine upstanding pillar of society.
In capitalism the ends justify the means. If you want to be a cruel and evil, you better be successful at it.
I'm not the first to point out that normal, average, well adjusted people in a profoundly disordered society are likely so well adjusted because they mesh rather well with the profound disorder of that society.
In other words, they're probably bastards.
I wonder if the people with an enormous macho complex and strong feelings for Fight Club realize that Palchuk is gay and the club is based on experiences with men finding men in a homorepressive society.
In my experience macho men tend to be homophobes but it's of course possible these guys are the outlier.
