a diagram showing that the UK power plug has a longer earth prong that connects the device to earth and prevents broken devices from becoming live - enters socket first, pushing open shutters guarding the live and neutral ports (which are closed normally so you cant jamp a fork in there and zap yourself). It has a fuse build in that protects the circuit in case of fault by interrupting the current. And shorter live and neutral prongs that have the bottom half of them insulated so even if the plug is pulled out slightly if its still live, there prongs are insultated and by the time the plug is pulled out that a live prong is exposed, the plug is no longer live.
