@thomasfuchs @firebreathingduck Here you hit the 50% bracket after just 48,320 euros :) And close to 60% on extra income (ex. bonuses etc.). I'm certain that my US colleagues pay way less taxes than I do.

But I'm not complaining, we have a great social net (not just healthcare). Our kid is mentally disabled and he has been (and will likely be) taken care off extremely well - the primary reason we haven't moved elsewhere.

Now, realistically, how would you feel about paying a 50% tax on most of your income (and 60% on special income such as bonuses, RSUs, etc.) 😅️ That's the current situation in my home country (Belgium). I personally don't mind but when I tell this to my American friends they freak out :)

@thomasfuchs I think some of those charts are definitely a bit scary :) Contrary to what many people think I honestly don't know if we are going through a bubble. I think that LLMs are there to stay and are quite useful to many people (I also personally don't buy the Ed Zitron narrative.) But one thing for sure, OpenAI & friends are losing a lot of money...

@thomasfuchs I still remember the first time I played wolf3d on a friend's PC with an actual sound card (ours at home didn't have one, didn't prevent me from spending days playing the game :)).

At one point I got the AWE32 which was fantastic, I have the warcraft 2 soundtrack forever engraved in memory.

Logged into Twitter to see what's going on there and my timeline is pretty much empty except for 2-3 "friends" who apparently turned into alt-right nutjobs. Looks like everyone else is gone.

I personally don't care much about people's political opinions but I draw the line at far-right / authoritarian ideologies, which I think are dangerous to society as a whole and ultimately to our personal freedom, as history showed us multiple times.

@thomasfuchs Yeah but the machine perforates the aluminum case so there might be residues in the coffee? I'm sure it has been tested and it's totally safe for human consumption but I'm quite paranoid :)

@thomasfuchs I never tried Keurig (a google image search shows it's some kind of drip coffee? yikes), indeed Nespresso makes an OK espresso, I use it occasionally when it's in hotel rooms while thinking I'm probably getting aluminum poisoning at the same time :)
