This morning, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) briefly used our front parking lot as a staging area for their enforcement vehicles.

We want to be clear: the Ventura Police Department is not working with ICE in any capacity, is not involved in any immigration-related enforcement, and continues to fully comply with the California Values Act (SB 54) and our department policy which prohibits involvement in immigration enforcement. Their use of our parking lot did not involve our personnel or any of our other resources. We spoke with the ICE supervisors and requested they not use any city facility parking lots for their

operations moving forward.

So, now have tried roasting my coffee four different ways:

1. too light (first batch... terrible! Threw it out, it was only one pot's worth)
2. Light (right after first crack) -- huge amount of caffeine, but not a great deal of flavor
3. Medium (after first crack and then golden brown) -- good amount of caffeine, great flavor!
4. Dark (up to second crack) -- ashy, not a lot of caffeine, almost no flavor. Bleah. Have a bunch of that. Going to probably go roast some more at medium and mix them today.

Funny enough, BEFORE I started this roasting experiment, I preferred dark coffee, for *more* flavor, because the commercial coffees seem to taste better darker... probably because they have been on the shelf for months, lose a lot of the aromatics you get in fresh roasted coffee.
