@simsa03 This is why we have stable LTS tracks and bleeding edge tracks for software updates ;) If only we formalised the difference between them in more aspects of life than just my Linux desktop 😅
@h "I feel two big pulls, one shaped like material fulfilment and one shaped like spiritual fulfilment" - I feel this. Not sure what your losses have been, but a lot of life for me these days is change, and change is uncertainty, and realised yesterday that while I chose that path, actually I've always lived by more certainty until now. It's scary, but also acknowledging it makes me feel somewhat proud, at least.
@simsa03 Maybe it's become infrastructure to the point that boring is good. But can't quite merge that with the constant pressure for people to hype progress, or my own inherent need for disruptive magic...
@orbific Yeah, I think it sums up the more general approach to "infrastructure" under privatisation - that it's something to be exploited, rather than an investment in generating value. Same with education at all levels, training, travel (although oddly few toll roads). Ironically, the more dependent we are on an infrastructure component, the more attractive it is for exploitation.
But TBH the Victorians probably would have just replaced post with a better, state-run email service...
@zenlan This could tie in with a recent idea of "deliberate friction", but I feel like (for me, at least) it suits certain content more than others, and certain people more than others. With a very small intersection of the two...
Alternatively, maybe I can just try sending stuff out into the ether and seeing where it pops up. 🤔
OK, all self-hosted .exmosis.net sites are now back up. A downtime review revealed new flatpack furniture installed and *someone* (ahem) trying to plug the USB lead into the wrong damn hole.
"[The rosy woodlouse] is reported to show a preference for Anglican churchyards over Catholic ones because the older, Protestant churches used ox-blood mortar."
@orbific That's a death circle right there. Why would people use it more if it costs more? 1st class will merge with 24-hour special delivery services in less than 3 years.
