My Dad was a very blunt person, who's routine was very important to him. The first time my parents had a get-together at their house, at 9 pm, my Dad stood up and said, "Everyone needs to leave now, it's time for bed."

Everyone was surprised, but they did as they were asked, and once everyone was gone, my Mom told him that it wasn't appropriate to just tell everyone they had to leave like that. So, the next time they had a get-together my Dad stood up at 9 pm, he said, "It's my bed time, my wife can tell you when to leave."

Me: I shouldn't make things harder for myself.

The funny thing about those shows like House or Sherlock is that they act like it's okay to be mean if you're in pain, like they can't help it somehow. I know lots of people, including myself, who have had chronic pain conditions for decades, and we manage to be somewhat pleasant people. Buck up baby, everyone has something, you're just a dick.

Sometimes I see comments sections, and my mind is blown. People just can't stop talking about other people's bodies. It's so fucking weird. They are too fat, too, skinny, hair is too long, too short, definitely had work done, should have work done, too masculine, too feminine, too much makeup, not enough makeup, clothes too slutty, clothes too modest, too young, too old. Aren't people exhausted by this, when it's all so arbitrary? Other people's bodies aren't anyone's business. Why would anyone even care?

One of the things I find fascinating about literature is that at some point a writer combined a few words together, and we all collectively decided we liked it, and now it's hard to separate those words. Here are two of my favorites:

Hubs has been on a business trip for the last couple of days, and I've been staying alone for basically the first time ever. I've found myself going feral with no supervision, staying up very late, only putting on clothes when absolutely necessary, debating about whether shaving my legs is necessary, just eating meals that consist of random things I find. I've always been amused at my Gran who has lived a life exactly how she's pleased for so long, that her schedule is hilarious. Once on vacation with her, she got up to have Midnight Salad, and she was just overall frustrated that we were trying to sleep instead of watching 2 am Jeopardy. I guess, if left to my own devices, I'm more like her than I thought.

Why do these rich Silicon Valley dudes always talk about getting up when it's still dark, like it's some kind of great virtue?

Truth is not an echo chamber, accepting other people who aren't hurting anyone just by existing isn't an echo chamber, kindness isn't an echo chamber.

I don't need to consider "alternate beliefs" that are just lies. There's this idea that if I'm not constantly reading stuff by straight up Nazis, that I won't understand that they are Nazis. Not having to read nonsense as possible facts is one of the really cool things about having critical thinking skills.

The idea that Mastodon is an echo chamber is crazy anyway. I am more informed here than I ever was on Twitter. People rarely just state opinions, they back them up, and as a frequent poster, I promise you that if you do post something without a link to back it up, someone will ask for one.
