Idly wishing #ActivityPub made posters select one or more categories for their post that includes things like sports, news/current events, and politics.

And that users could configure their client to see or block by category (possibly with AND and OR options).

Maybe I'm a niche user, but #Mastodon is the LAST place I want to see anything related to some categories and endless and "unique" takes, subposts, and such. The Arab Spring was one thing, but that content has been commodified.

@kelownagurl Curious: what’s the appeal of social media with stuff like this? Isn’t it normally hot takes/drama from randos or notable people, or something you could read from a reliable news source?
