@Bitwarden Why not have the discussion on the fediverse so we do not need to login ?
As for my 2 cents. I did see flatpak as a better solution when we are talking about simular ones like snapshot or appimage. Fact remains it allows users to push old stuff to us since it is 'compatible' but not secure.
I dropped gnome since they are moving towards such a system. I doubl I will allow it again.
Those are hidden too over here so I can't respond. Indeed an rbl is not to hard to build but I have a lot of other worries about how the fediverse interacts. I now have a nice balance when it comes to people who are posting a lot that does not interest me but do post items I would like to see. Filters per user help out a lot to be honest. Anything that is simply forwarded is not shown in my stream since it are mostly mem reposts of memes.
As for Spamikaze, it works great as an rbl but I doubt it would work for the fediverse. A lot of people hate the idea of it ( same as a lot of isp's who got blocked by it ).
It are valid points. I tend to go offline for certain groups simply since it is getting very messy to be honest. I need to rethink my usage of the fediverse to be honest.
After long tries I think I must conclude the #fediverse is not mature yet. Let me explain. I had some issues with servers that keep pounding my server even when a #404 is generated since the user/platform does not exist anymore. I ran #Friendica in the past and deleted it, using #Hubzilla now and the domain name is the same.
Somehow I thought people would, like I always do, look at log files, look at the error logs most of all and they would notice users would query non-existing accounts. Let me surprise you, people do not care. This evening I made the channels people are trying to reach and they simply state there is nothing there. Maybe the users of those Friendica servers will be able to notice.
Firewall blocks are lifted so go crazy people, have fun doing unlogical things.
This also made me look at the AP protocol. It does not seem to have an answer and that worries me. I know Diaspora made an effort with success, when someone deletes an account the connections will not see it anymore.
These kind of problems might result in servers querying old and non existing accounts and therefor generate a lot of traffic that is not even needed. I do hope the fediverse will one day be able to simply grow up and act on such issues.
Former IT guy ( Linux, Oracle, Unix ). Born and raised in the Netherlands, moved to Germany in 2008 together with my wife and our youngest. We are enjoying the friendly people in the Grafshaft Bentheim. I post in Dutch, English and German. If that bothers you then simply use the Hubzilla user filter to simply block lang=xx where xx is nl, de or en. I have a general filter that is simply blocking all posts that are shared. I am not here to see 10 connections to share the ones of some other 10 connections I have. Please ~do not connect~ to me if you only share posts of others. I will not see them but I doubt, in that case, we will ever have a real talk about life and the universe. Some wiki items I am working on:https://federate.hopto.org/wiki/hans/Hubzilla_Tips/Homehttps://federate.hopto.org/wiki/hans/Minidlna/Homehttps://federate.hopto.org/wiki/hans/Fail2ban/HomeIn the past I worked on Open Source projects. For Spamikaze, a passive spamtrap, I wrote the first version together
