Because a majority of people now use the second definition of Linux, the use of "GNU/Linux" is discouraged as it often comes off as redundant, pedantic, and uninviting, unless specifically referring to Linux distributions that use the GNU Core Utilities. Notable Linux distributions that do not use the GNU Core Utilities include Alpine Linux and Gentoo in some cases.

๐Ÿค” Instead of angering Nintendo, you all could be archiving everything on https://library.kiwix.org/ instead.

Y'know, for when the internet goes to heck and you don't want to go to the library and use an encyclopedia or (heaven forbid) look up developer documentation in a *book*. :blobcat0_0:

:xfce: Almost everybody I see recommending Xfce seems to throw in some disclaimer to the effect of, "It looks kinda ugly by default, but it's really easy to theme."

๐Ÿค” I definitely agree with that; customizing Xfce is fantastic and incredibly simple, however, it shouldn't be something anyone *has* to do.
Why hasn't the default look of Xfce changed?

:ablobcatcoffee: Matrix would be a lot less complicated if they just let rooms be hosted just by the server they were created on.

Instead they made some kind of graph database consensus system resulting in way too many unfixable issues:

      why not matrix?
      from haru
at this point it seems like most of the tech community is familiar with matrix, the "open network for decentralized communication". lots of projects and communities have migrated from a host of other platforms, including irc, discord and slack with the promise that their new spaces will be free forever. i first discovered matrix in 2021 and have dedicated a lot of time trying to understand exactly how it works, as well as trawling through github issues to try and understand whether we should consider matrixโ€ฆ

You're thinking about the wrong category of device.

I'm saying an internet-connected $100 toothbrush should have just had a power button and an intensity select button instead of an app, and could have been $90 if they did that instead.

Bluetooth radios have to be installed, connected, and programmed.
    Antennas have to be positioned
The app has to be designed, uploaded, and tested.
    Etc.
I think the app is more expensive.
