The party of free speech sure does have a lot of words they won't let scientists say.

@tchambers This is very reasonable, imo!
Social.coop is voting again on whether to suspend Threads. I am angry about Meta's policies, but I think this proposal is symbolic and removes value without adding any.
As it stands, Threads' approach to federation means Threads users *cannot* interact with social.coop users. Since we have Threads limited, social.coop users also can't incidentally experience messages of hate without explicitly following someone posting them. I don't think this will reduce any hate in the fediverse.
Bluesky has great aspirations to never become an enshittified platform and I admire much of what it’s done so far. But, as with many once-open social media platforms, it’s still beholden to its investors who sooner or later want to see a profit, either through a functional business model (which it does not have yet) or an acquisition. It is not enshittification-proof nor billionaire-proof.

If Gazans would only put in place a reasonable government, they could live out from under the thumb of the Israeli government, in freedom and dignity, without the constant threat of violence, just as the Palestinians in the West Bank do.

Honestly I’m tempted to sign up for Flickr again partially because I’m tickled by the fact that *something* still remains from the “Web 2.0” era and partially because that seems like a sign of a social media platform that never lost its guiding star.
o ok cool then
I know it fills a lot of people with dread, but I’m personally kinda stoked to see some @threads.net handles popping up in my feed
@ntnsndr I do both but I’ve *never* been a browser tab hoarder. As soon as I exceed like 10 or so I close everything except my pinned tabs. It’s just how I’ve been ever since tabs were invented. If I want to save something for later, that’s what bookmarks are for!

Amidst a sea of mediocre equivocating headlines, Rolling Stone nailed it.

@spencer What appeals to you about not using media queries?
