PSA: Refugee Action have a donation match going on up to ยฃ90,000 if you've got some spare money in your pocket now is an excellent time to take advantage of that: https://donate.refugee-action.org.uk/page/159947/
Tired of all the emotional whiplash going on outside and desperately need a little break to chill with your pocket friends? Open up your phone for more emotional whiplash as a treat. Nowhere is safe x
@jesse_saenz for sure, I'm left-handed and had a terrible primary education experience too, so good luck to anybody including myself reading that scrawl later ๐ค
I had to fill out a form by hand at work today and whenever I do this I need to check the spelling every few words on a computer, I explained to my work experience person that I've probably got my dyslexia to thank for getting me into computers in the first place which is pretty cool. It was his final day today, he has confidence issues so I've been trying to lead by example during his placement that we're all just broken and faking our way through life anyway so might as well join in, innit
A customer that was properllllyyy stressing the fuck out about computer stuff noticed my printer had a sticker on it that said Carley Rae EPSON on it and it sorted his mood right out aw x
I'm working with a local charity to refurb donated laptops for them to release back into the community and they get a lot of ex-business laptops with BIOS passwords set. It's really annoying! If you're a business IT person donating old hardware, pretty please with a cherry on top remove the BIOS passwords first xxx
I don't use #KDE but still follow along because it's interesting. I noticed in the latest "This week in KDE Apps" post that @tokodon has changed "Content Warning" to "Content Notice" and removed the warning iconography; presumably following the push-back around the new and awful #Mastodon web CW redesign. Really cool that they took feedback around a separate project and got to work altering their own app to be better on this front! Nice to be sharing positive news x
Like, look at how blissfully simple the process was in that merge request thread too. Imagine if Mastodon's GitHub was like that instead!! No arguing, no begging and pleading, no stubborn petite king to contend with, just a core dev sticking the thing in after considering what would be an improvement based on user's feedback on an other project, without even having to be asked to do it, and calling it job done!
If you've called yourself a "refugee" because you clicked a few buttons to move from one social network online to an other, not only is that extremely poor taste, you should donate to Refugee Action and sign up to their newsletter: https://www.refugee-action.org.uk/
Basically impossible to figure out in the notifications column here now if a post is a reply or DM and what on earth its visibility is. Why is there a "quiet public" type post represented by a... Sleep??? icon? What.
Sometimes a reply is a "reply" in the notifications column, except for when it's an "@" which traditionally is a DM, but now isn't a DM. Which is a massive risk of people replying with private shit into what is actually a "followers only" post. Truly, Mastodon is getting easier to use for newcomers ๐
