The mod team are saddened by yesterday's incident at Bondi Beach, and our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.
It is timely to remind everyone to use content warnings.
In addition, refrain from sharing news from non reputable sources, or broadcasting ill informed opinions and offensive memes. Be mindful that people are falsely identifying offenders, with one innocent person already experiencing doxxing.
Aus.social does not give a platform for anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism or bigotry. Be kind to each other.

We're currently seeking expressions of interest from aus.social members to join the mod team. There's no expectation to be available every day. We generally receive only a few reports every day, unless there's a wave of spam. New mods are provided basic training and ongoing support.

Moderation decisions are made by consensus, after discussing reports and using the Code of Conduct for guidance. Many reports related to spam. Other common reports (mostly involving off Instance accounts) include trolling, racism, transphobia, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

If you're interested in becoming a mod, first have a re-read of the aus.social code of conduct. Then reply to this post by direct message, telling us what you can bring to the role.

In response to inquiries from community members, we firmly state that cops are not welcome on Aus.Social.

We have built a space where socially marginalised peoples feel included, respected and safe. We do not extend that respect to people who work within State systems that racially profile, discriminate, and cause actual harm to people.

We support prison abolitionists and justice activism for deaths in custody.

If you work in law enforcement, please find another server or better yet, find a real job.
