I'm so old, we coordinate after church choir practice whether we're going to the Capitol (Oregon) or to the Tesla dealership. Since there has been vandalism & firebombing at the Tesla dealership, we opted for the Capitol, again.

Very true. It pains me to see folks spend large amounts of money on cosmetic "improvements", but not do seismic retrofitting. Fortunately, CA requires Unreinforced Masonry buildings (URMs) to be retrofitted. There has not been a statewide push for fire resistance retrofitting, landscaping, water storage, and egress.

Lawsuits against electric utility companies has made them re-think their maintenance and operations after sparking quite a few major conflagrations. (Camp Fire in Paradise, Tubbs Fire, etc)

When you burn down a whole town (Paradise),another one in Hawaii - Maui, and a big chunk of Santa Rosa, CA, you start clearing around your old transmission lines, and you start shutting down power to zones getting hit by high winds. Now they send shut down notices and turn off power to keep the lines from starting fires.
